Brakes is a dark, improv-based ensemble comedy set in London. Divided into two parts, it tells the story of each couple's relationship in reverse, starting with the break-ups.
At 18, George Ward left the Gypsy community. He had felt rejected having come out as gay. Leaving his Gypsy identity behind, he invented Cherry Valentine, a drag alter-ego. Now he wants to find out if he can be accepted as a queer Gypsy and feel proud.
An elderly angel goes on his journey through his retirement home and beyond as he lives out his final moments. As he is pushed down the drab corridor he nods goodbye to his fellow residents and disappears through a door for his definitive performance.
