A small peaceful town in Norway. But forces other than peace and tolerance are brewing beneath the surface. It all begins with Martin, a teacher, accused of being gay. The rumor spreads and also hits his friends Kjærsti and Sara, who live together. The three are deviants in people's eyes, and threaten the image of reality. In the municipal administration, two corrupt officials use the rumor to hide their own dishonesty.
A princess falls in love with a man of the people, and their love must be a secret. But when someone takes a photo of them together, the scandal is a fact.
