In 1957, Chinghiz Aitmatov, a young Kyrgyz student from the Moscow Literature Institute, destined to become one of the great writers of our time, arrives at a Kyrgyz village to receive the blessing of Sayakbay Karalayev, the famous narrator of the epic poem Manas. Looking back upon his life, Sayakbay recalls a number of historical events which took place throughout Kyrgyz and Soviet history.
Scene. The play. First Love. A boy decides to confess his love for his classmate on the day of the play in an abandoned old club. She is Juliet to him, and he wants to be her Romeo.
After a five-year absence, a young couple returns from Russia to Kyrgyzstan and takes their six-year-old child, who was living with his grandmother. Moving to the city and immersing himself in a new life opens up a world of emotional unpredictability for Tair - he doesn't know how to relate to the new woman in his life.
