Prabhat's expansively mounted historical set at a contentious period of the Maratha empire is a biographical of Ramshastri Prabhune (1720-89), chief justice at the court of Madhavrao and later of Nana Phadnavis, and a major figure in the development of an indigenous legal code.
During the Partition of India, Mohini is abducted and raped. Upon returning to her family, she faces rejection from society. In revenge, she becomes a smuggler, dealing in illegal arms. She falls for fellow refugee Satish, and when he's implicated, she confesses and surrenders.
Ram Joshi is a Brahmin poet, who through his love of poetry and dance starts associating with the tamasha artists. He falls in love with the tamasha dancer Baya. The film follows his descent into acoholism and his redemption from it through poetry.
