Liz is homeless, living life adrift. In a moment of despair and loneliness, she returns home after many years to her God-fearing mother and discovers time has changed more than she ever could have imagined.
The story takes place over 24 hours in Prague. Klára, Viki, and Mechanik live on the edge of the law every day. Viki, a drug addict, is looking for money for his regular fix, preferably through theft. Mechanik keeps his distance; he is a dealer and does not take drugs. Klára has partially overcome her addiction, but she is troubled by the absence of a home. She is about to give birth. The neighborhood where they all live is controlled by a pair of enforcers: a former boxer and his partner Majk. Their fates will dramatically intersect during the course of the day. And it will cost someone their life.
A determined artist submits his papers in what seems to be a visa office for a foreign land. After vigorous interrogation, and insistence on his part to get through, We find out that he is in fact in purgatory, and is pleading his case to go through to the afterlife, ceasing his existence on earth.
