The story is centered on the stubborn farmer Ernst and his wife Louise who are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a traditional Danish gold wedding for friends and family. However, the family carries several secrets and Ernest holds on to the biggest one of them all. Through one long joyous, intoxicating, surprising, gripping and melancholic night, the truths creep out and the family is put to the ultimate test.
Maria is escaping an assault with her boyfriend, Jonas. At a diner, by the road, they meet a young man, who invites them to a community, where he lives. The community is led by the charismatic leader, Eliot. They live by self-sufficiency, isolated from society. Maria is charmed by Eliot and distances herself from Jonas. As secrets are revealed, Maria has to make hard decisions of moral in order to survive.
Sammi, Henrik, Miriam, and Gert are prison officers and colleagues in an old, worn-down Danish prison. Their work environment is raw and hostile, and their respective lives outside the prison walls are filled with conflict, secrets, and loneliness for very different reasons.
