The first episode was broadcast 27 June 1971 in the German Democratic Republic, and after the dissolution of Fernsehen der DDR the series was picked up by ARD. For half a year, the officer and the dissident sit face to face almost daily, and the unbelievable happens: they fall in love with each other. Jan and Bettina are always at risk of their love being discovered.
