He hopes to enlist his errant son, Marcos (Federico Bal, the star’s real-life son), to take him by motorcycle; both Marcos and his by-the-books sister (Anita Martínez) are opposed to the idea. But before he reaches his final destination, Julio will have the opportunity to check several things off his bucket list in this emotionally resonant road movie.

The power of López-Carrillo's verses is such that the words take control of what unfolds on screen, turning everyday tasks into the portrait of a man abandoned by fortune, alone, and noticing his life slips away. Writing is his only refuge from despair. Through irony, the poet manages to give meaning to existence and fight, always with a bitter smile, against oblivion.

A Midsummer Night's Dream 2019

Joaquín Gaztambide’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream was first performed at the Teatro del Circo in 1852. Participating in the revival of this comic opera are Miguel Ángel Gómez-Martínez, the veteran musical director, who considers Gaztambide to be “interesting, enjoyable and the holder of an extraordinary musical quality”, and Marco Carniti, the stage director, who wants to make us enjoy the beauty of a work which cheerfully veers between dream and reality. The libretto has been completely revamped and the action moved to Rome in the 1950s. Broadcast live from the Teatro de la Zarzuela on February 10th, 2019.
