Ryo is a boy broken on an emotional level, doesn't go to school anymore and locks himself inside at home. Hiroki is a student constantly talking about changing the world, but struggles to keep up with his friends. Ami, an isolated girl, comes into the life of both boys. The three of them get alienated from society and slowly, but surely, from each other and themselves.
Tanaka Nozomu is one of the three high school students. People call her "Baka" ("Idiot"). She isn't timid and she can't read between the lines. Her friends are Kikuchi Akane and Saginomiya Shiori . Akane enjoys anime and manga. Shiori is extremely smart, but her emotions have dried up. These three girls are also classmates. Their homeroom teacher is Sawatari Masataka.
Sota Nishino is a good-looking high-school student. He meets Mai, who is his friend Yukihiro Nanase's younger sister. She is also a high-school student and somewhat naïve. Sota Nishino mutters to Yukihiro Nanase, "Your sister is cute." Mai overhears Sota's remark through the thin wall between her room and her brother's.
The story follows Paprika, an American exchange student on a "homestay" in Japan and her friend, Juicy, who have to deal with the arrival of Paprika's obnoxious cousin, Chibiham. Chibiham is determined to have a good time while visiting Japan, but she's oblivious to cultural differences and runs roughshod over the locals - complaining about the food, picking fights with store clerks, and otherwise making a nuisance of herself. Will Juicy's mother be able to set Chibiham straight?
