Cairography is a dance/performance video. Before it took an artistic form, Cairography was a set of fragments of conversations and stories of two non-Egyptian women friends whose relationship with Cairo ranged between paranoia over feeling constantly surveilled and nonchalance as a performance of resistance. It then grew to become an assortment of testimonials from strangers in the street and friends of the artists where issues of loss of personal space, sexual harassment, respect of privacy and shattered anonymity in public space have emerged.
Artist Friday "the Animal" escapes after 7 years imprisonment. While US CIA agent Aretha Steel and lieutenant Hossam Hagag, interrogate Zaher Block, Friday's closest prison mate, Friday is wrecking havoc making mock-"snuff" cinematic parodies to avenge himself. Friday's core trauma had been during his experience of cinema, not of prison. The line between reality and fiction may be blurry; their perennial violence is one.
Al Sowan is an Egyptian play written and directed by French theatre-maker Pascal Rambert and translated by actress, director, and drama critic Menha El Batrawy. This is Rambert’s first Egyptian play, written especially for the local audience at D-CAF – where it is set to make its World Premiere.
