Nahid Persson Sarvestani, born 24 May 1960 in Shiraz, Iran, is an award-winning Iranian-Swedish documentary filmmaker and director, who came to Sweden as a refugee after the Iranian revolution 1979.
A documentary that follows two young women raising children and supporting drug habits through prostitution in Iran ruled by religious fundamentalists.
As a student, the director managed to flee revolutionary Iran. Many who stayed behind did not survive. When there are renewed protests in Teheran 30 years later, she goes looking for a couple of other survivors who fled. An emotional, very personal documentary.
Journalist and activist Masih Alinejad has 4.5 million followers on Instagram after urging Iranian women to rebel against the forced hijab on social media. Her call to action has grown into one of the largest acts of civil disobedience in today’s Iran. Something that has made the regime desperately tighten its grip to regain control over the people.
