In an Argentine village in the 1930s, the willful Leonor discovers that her beloved daughter, Charlotte, has dwarfism. Attempting to let her have as normal a childhood as possible, Leonor never discusses Charlotte's lack of stature, nor lets anyone else in the village ever mention it. As Charlotte grows up into a smart and self-possessed young woman, local eccentric Ludovico, who collects miniatures, becomes smitten with her.
A young working mother in Buenos Aires, Ana reads a note suggesting a relationship kept hidden by her husband, an executive preoccupied by his job. To solve the mystery she travels a long distance to Rio Escondido, an unimportant river town at the foot of the mountains in western Argentina, and the film becomes a journey of discovery as she finds her heart and her passion. Along the way, truths and perceptions intertwine when Ana meets Martin and she learns who and what he is.
A girl, whose father is incarcerated as a political prisoner, is not allowed to draw pictures of birds or anything related to freedom. She will find a way to deliver her message of hope to her father in a very unusual way. Based on a story by Eduardo Galeano.
