Prison colony on an island: the staff Doctor has some neuroses he's trying to overcome, and his "weakness" makes him vulnerable to exploitation by a sociopathic prisoner.
Rodolfo wants to marry the aristocrat Adriana who rejects him. Humberto, her brother, kills a man for her. Rodolfo attributes the crime to the gypsy Renzo so that Adriana will gratefully marry him. Renzo is sent to the island of the condemned, where he is left for dead.
