After a fatal crash involving her brother, Elsa tries to escape her corrupt & prejudiced background, making Francisco (the victim’s dad) – a wealthy family’s driver – resign himself with the unavoidable so as not to compromise his employer’s son, thus trying to gain something from the tragedy.
Set in the early 1970s, Pôr do Sol no Areeiro has an excellent storyline, perfectly capturing the mindset of the bourgeoisie of the Avenidas who trade cars, feelings, and people with the ease of an amorality that was typical of Lisbon society at that time.
An entertaining TV movie that tells us how the transition from the Estado Novo to democracy took place on April 25. All this through the eyes of a child, the daughter of a dutiful employee who always had to submit, even if he disagreed, to his boss's despotism in order to provide for his family. Until the day when she simply wanted to enjoy the day of absolute promise, so long awaited, with her daughter.
