Spain, 1953. Pedro Zaragoza, mayor of the city of Benidorm, in the province of Alicante, by the Mediterranean Sea, visits the Palacio del Pardo, General Franco's residence in Madrid, to ask him for help, in the hope of solving a very delicate problem.
Spain, March 1939. The war is dying down. At the Port of Alicante thousands of people are piling, waiting for the arrival of ships that will carry them to exile. Moored, the freighter Stanbrook is witnessing the desperation.
John is a socially awkward man in a downward spiral of debt, until a lucky accident propels him into a new career as a black-market pet exterminator. In these difficult times, some families can no longer afford a pet. John has some inventive ways to help them.
