In the spring of 1873, people from all over the world come to the tiny village of Göschenen in the canton of Uri, to work on the biggest and most spectacular construction site of modern times: the tunnel through the Gotthard.
For a long time, wealth adviser Elke and car mechanic Wastl were happy together. Until Elke gets involved more and more in dubious financial transactions that bring her success down the line. When her husband wants to stop these windy business, she separates from him. And goes even further - the accusation that her husband has beaten her, brings Wastl for a long time in a psychiatric hospital.
At the beginning of 2000, the young commissioner Yvonne Weber moved from Frankfurt am Main to Eisenach. Together with the local colleague Frank Wolf, she is to review an unresolved murder case from the GDR era. The investigation team encounters inconsistencies in the file and it becomes clear that there is no interest in truth-clarifying the Eisenach department and the prosecutor's office in Gotha.
