Accused of having stolen 3 million liras, a bank employee serves five years in prison. Having served his sentence and believed to be rich, he was showered with care and attention by everyone, even his wife. When the real perpetrator of the theft is found, he is despised and mocked. Then he actually steals some money and runs away with his wife.
A young diplomat falls in love with a lady he has followed in the street and in order to establish a relationship, he introduces her into her house proposing a connection between Titì, the lady's dog and her Pekingese. The husband of the woman, somewhat naive, lends itself to the game and the dongiovanni becomes a regular home. The lady knows how to resist the siege and, after the critical moment, speaks clearly to the young man who definitively desists from the enterprise.

Jannings stars as famed operatic singer Albert Winkelmann, who is greeted with cheers, applause and romantic propositions whenever he performs in his native Vienna. But when he embarks on a tour of South America, tragedy strikes. The sweltering climate causes Winkelmann to lose his voice on stage, a disaster met with hoots and cat-calls. Dispirited he returns to Europe, where he soon learns that no one is aware of what happened in South America. Intending to retire so as not to be exposed to further humiliation, Winkelmann is goaded back on stage -- where, miraculously, his gorgeous voice returns.
