Eight thousand kilometres from the United Kingdom, in the middle of the South Atlantic, is the remote British Overseas Territory of St Helena. Four thousand people live on the Island. Extraordinarily the only way to get there is on the Royal Mail Ship, which sails from Cape Town once a month. But 350 years of isolation, since the island was first settled, are about to come to an end. In a few months' time St Helena's newly-constructed airport will receive its first flights.
