The action takes place in France in 1942. The Nazis herded people of different social classes and nationalities into a pre-trial detention cell, facing imminent death. One of them, Prince von Berg, receives the right to freedom. He renounces this right in the name of saving another person.
The consequences of a nuclear war are destruction, hunger. The surviving people have even lost the memory of their former civilization. At the center of the play is the Old Man, the only person who remembers the past, because without the past humanity cannot have a future...
